Great Scholar Goes Home!
Friday, January 5, 2007 a great premillennial/dispensational scholar went home to be with the Lord. Dr. John A. Witmer served the Lord for well over sixty years. He was a premier professor at “old” Dallas Seminary and also the head librarian for many years.
Dr. Witmer was also a nationally published author and a close personal friend. For my AMG Twenty-first century commentary series he wrote Galatians-Ephesians which should be published sometime this year. Dr. Witmer had a BA, MSL, Th.M., and Th.D. He is well known as author of numerous Sunday School lessons for youth and adults, and for his extensive contributions to Christianity Today, Gospel Herald, Moody Magazine, and Kindred Spirit.
He was extremely intelligent and gentle as a Christian gentleman. He will be well missed. The vacuum he leaves will be filled by younger, often misguided academicians who are philosophical but not as textual and biblical.
Thank you Dr. Witmer for all you did for me.
