1 Corinthians 1:30 is a profound verse of Scripture. God has placed us into Christ which gives us a new POSITION in Him. The verse reads:
"By [God's] doing you are [placed] in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption."
We become four things because we are IN Christ. Sanctification is the Greek word related to "Hagios" which means holiness, or holy. We are holy because we are in Christ, we are related to Him! "In Christ" is a technical expression. By being in Him, we are saved because who He is brings about our new relationship. I am found only in Him!
"Became" is the Greek word "ginomai" which means "to become something different." We became someone who is now "wisdom." That happens because we are related to Christ. This is "wisdom" from God. Nicoll writes:
"It comes of Him (God) that you are in Christ Jesus." "Your new life derived from God is grounded in Christ." The relative clause "who was made wisdom unfolds the content of the life communicated" to us from God in Christ. God has done it all. He gives us Christ's righteousness, sanctification, and redemption, all because we are related to Him. Without God's working we would have nothing. —Dr. Mal Couch (9/11)
